The kettle clicked first

Aneta Blake

I had the birth time written on the back of a pharmacy receipt, and I still waited until the kettle clicked. Not for atmosphere. The receipt was under the salt, and I did not want to slide the salt while the water was loud.

When I opened it, the rising sign was not the one I had been saying at dinner. I sat with that for a minute, then put the receipt in the drawer with the rubber bands.

The calculator I used is here.
